Christmas and New Year taxi tips from Freeway
As we approach the end of December, many taxi drivers are once again facing one of the busiest periods of the year. With lots of people doing Christmas shopping, taking time off and relaxing with friends and family, drivers are expecting longer and later shifts to meet demand.
Temporary and rogue drivers
At this time of year, the number of temporary taxi drivers often takes a huge leap forward. This can be expected to rise further as more and more Uber drivers take to the roads alongside licensed public and private hire drivers. This can make things easier for passengers trying to get a taxi during busy periods, and as long as they can book in advance, there shouldn’t be any risk of getting a fake driver.
Unfortunately, the number of unlicensed taxis on the streets can also skyrocket at this time of year. These rogue drivers certainly pose as a risk to passengers so make sure to impart your knowledge with your passengers and give them further assurance that you have a genuine licence.
Remember that it’s always best to keep in touch with other local drivers in order to share any knowledge of illegal drivers and false conduct. If you’re ever concerned about passengers’ safety or potentially dodgy drivers, contacting the police is the best course of action – better safe than sorry.
Keep prepared for winter
Even though it’s largely been an unusually warm winter so far, we all know that British weather can be pretty unpredictable! It’s always best to be prepared for harsh winter weather that could be lurking around the corner.
We’ve already put together a quick guide to getting your vehicle prepared for the winter, but there’s always more you can do to make sure you’re ahead of the game if the weather takes a nasty turn.
It’s always worth checking your engine, fluid levels and battery power more regularly than usual – even a quick check before or after a shift can ensure you’re always on the ball. And don’t forget to always keep an emergency breakdown kit with you, including torches, thermal blankets and a First Aid kit in case you and your passengers should end up waiting for roadside assistance.
